Self Portrait

It was so dark in the room that I was painting in so I set up a lamp, what I didnt realise until the next morning (in real day light) is that all the colours I was using were much paler than I thought because I was working under such a strong light. In daylight all the tones and colours I'd spent ages applying washed into one blurred cream colour.

Basic face shape sketched out onto canvas with pencil.

Stained Glass Studio

This is my mum's studio, she has been doing stained glass for 15 years :) This room is half studio half bedroom and it has south facing windows.

This is the Kiln, probably not that safe to have a kiln in your bedroom but its carefully monitored when on haha, it has shelves to stack the glass on.

This is the glass rack (which my grandad built to fit this space) and all the sheet glass is stored here.

But its usually overflowing so there's glass everywhere aha (even in bags??)
Led in stored on the floor next to the glass rack
scrap glass colour coordinated in jars
paintbrushes, paints, glue, feathers etccc
Every square centimetre of space us used haha

Glass window lying around on the floor....
eisel against the window to see how glass looks against light

Practice Portraits/Sketches

After looking in the mirror I drew myself with my left hand (I’m RIGHT handed) without looking up at the mirror
Then I did the same but with my right hand, interestingly the left handed version looks more balanced as in this drawing my eyes are not in line with the rest of my features.

First attempt drawing from the mirror, looks nothing like me.

This was the first drawing which I completed while looking in the mirror
Second attempt
Second attempt, looks nothing like me

I got my Mum to draw me, and I drew her also.

Another attempt drawing without looking at the paper, realised one of my eyes is bigger than the other, maybe went a bit extreme with that haha

Starting to try and paint my skin tone, this doesn't look like much but it took ages.

National Portrait Gallery

Me and a friend, Aimee, went to the National Portrait Gallery. The first 2 things I drew didnt include faces because I was pretty sure they wouldnt look good haha

We found a bench and sat in front of this painting for a while and this was the first drawing i was pleased with, I think it does bare resemblance to the original :)

But then offcourse I went back to comfortably sketching :/ haha

I am pleased with this sketch though as the face does look like a face unlike any of my other sketches hahaha

By the end of the day, we lost patience with trying and not yet succeeding to draw flawless portraits
hahahaha
Taadaa!
